INSTALL training begins at Western Washington Carpenters' Training Center

For the first time, members of the Pacific Northwest Regional Council of Carpenters have the opportunity to learn floor covering techniques at the Specialties Training Center in Kent, Washington. Manufacturer representatives from Nora Systems and Forbo Marmoleum Flooring brought their product to the center and spent several days training 25 Union carpenters how to properly install it in a number of different situations. With UBC flooring trainers, INSTALL trainers, and employer representatives on hand, Union members were able to practice several installation techniques, work with state of the art tools, and receive one on one instruction from some of the industry’s top experts. Ultimately, the purpose of the training is to provide UBC members with certification to install these products. Both journeymen and apprentices attended the training.

“The INSTALL floor training will offer our members the skills to do the work and the accreditation to prove it,” stated Tom Flynn, Training Director for Carpenters-Employers Apprenticeship & Training Trust Fund of Washington-Idaho.

Other kinds of floor training are planned for future classes at the Kent Training Center as well as at training centers across the Regional Council.
